Remote Work for Managers
Contact Staff Regularly
Especially in these difficult times, keep all your regular meetings and catch ups with your staff. To remain productive, everyone needs your support. Keep in contact on a daily basis, online, via mail, phone, video or online chat. How is your staff doing, what topics are hot? Where does everybody need help - Even if these are private topics like taking care of loved ones or juggling work and family responsibilities. Some of your staff members may have children at home that need to get their schoolwork done so that they have trouble getting on interrupted time.
Others may be alone at home and need regular contacts and reassurance.. we recommend a daily briefing for everyone at the start of the day, and a check in at the end of the day.
Keep Communication Channels Running
Review communication structures and meeting schedules. What regular meeting should be continued, which ones can be postponed? Did you take the time to check in with other business unit managers? Now more than ever it could be important to get a companywide strategy on the way to deal with the current and future situation.
Review Business Strategy
Also, a future adjustment of strategy may be warranted and now is the time to discuss options. Part of your work force may have been laid off, or your business model has changed dramatically to where you need additional staff. In any event, strategic decisions are key to steer your company into the future. Which trends are already visible on the horizon for your industry, and which developments can already be integrated into the new business strategy? It may be a good idea to take the time and get aligned with other business units. Are there any opportunities that your company may be able to harvest? Every crisis has tactical and strategic responses that may require you to position yourself now
